ProVeg Belgium is the Belgian chapter of ProVeg International, evolving from EVA (Ethical Vegetarian Alternative), which was co-founded in Ghent in 2000 and was the first vegan organisation in the world to receive structural government funding. EVA launched the famous Thursday Veggie Day campaign in Ghent in 2009, leading the city to become the first in the world to officially endorse a weekly meat-free day. The organisation rebranded as ProVeg Belgium in 2022.
